Songlyrics: Chameleon

On I walk on my own

shedding this thing called skin and scales

and path of color behind me,

stretching from afar and away.

I am a walking rainbow, shifting, changing (like an oil slick…)

I am a walking rainbow, without an ending or a pausing (must keep moving…)

I am a walking rainbow, peeling layer by layer

Layer by layer, changing….

Layer by layer, changing…. changing, ahhhh….

I struggle to blend in, the light making no

difference to and for me

I am walking a path of skin

Trodding over a path of shells

slipping on smoothness

ultimately tripping.

Chameleon! Chameleon!

For I am no woman, girl, boy or man!

Slipped through the trees of the world society

The struggler that is me

Trickster! Illusionist! Liar!

Identities burning by many a heart, many a fire

How could I wear so many masks without

being seen, yet going so far?

So, so far… away (which is me? I am still an “I”?)

I am I still an I!!! I am “I” still a “me”?

Me!!!

I…

Chameleon! Chameleon!

For I am no woman, girl, boy or man!

Slipped through the trees of the world society

The struggler that is me

I walk through this jungle of

colorlessness and the lost

Wearing masked plumage and I boast

“I am a somebody.”

Even though I look and see there is a nothing

There’s “nobody”

This isn’t me

This isn’t mine.
